Defense and military metal fabrication is build-to-print sheet metal work for ground-support and field equipment — the cabinets, frames, chassis, and enclosure shells that carry electronics and hardware in training, communications, and support roles. Nevatronix Sheet Metal fabricates these components for non-ITAR defense contractors and military equipment OEMs, running the same documented-process discipline — weld procedure control, material certification, and lot traceability — that our gaming and fintech customers have required for years. The scope is fixed at the outset of every conversation: non-ITAR programs, build-to-print, no engineering or qualification-test authority.
What do we fabricate for defense and military programs?
Ground-support and field-equipment work concentrates in a handful of part families, and we build across all of them, with flat and tube blanks cut on our co-located laser cell — see laser cutting for defense and military parts:
- Communications and electronics equipment cabinets. Welded and formed housings built to a customer’s enclosure print.
- Ground-support equipment (GSE) frames. Structural frames and stands for field and depot support gear.
- Training simulator chassis and enclosures. Formed and welded structures for simulator and trainer hardware.
- Field-deployable enclosure shells. Weatherized housings built to a customer’s environmental design.
- Instrumentation and test-equipment housings. Cabinets and racks for test and measurement gear.
- Structural brackets and mounting frames. Clip angles, brackets, and mounts that carry other hardware.
Which welding procedures do you use, and are you AWS-certified?
Our welders are qualified to AWS D1.1 (structural steel) and D1.2 (aluminum) procedures — WPS-controlled and documented — across robotic and manual welding cells. We are not a formally AWS-certified shop and we do not hold aerospace-code (D17.1) qualification; if a program specifically requires a certified shop or D17.1 procedures, say so up front and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.
Are you ITAR registered?
No. Nevatronix is not ITAR registered, and we take non-ITAR defense and military OEM work only — that boundary is fixed, not a negotiating position. Within that scope, AWS D1.1/D1.2-procedure welding, mill-certified material handling, and full lot traceability through a MIE Trak Pro ERP apply the same way they do to our gaming and fintech production programs. ITAR-controlled work and USML articles fall outside what we accept.
Can you build to MIL-STD-810 environmental requirements?
We fabricate to a customer’s MIL-STD-810-qualified design — the material, gasket, and joint choices called out on the print for drop, vibration, water-ingress, or temperature-cycling service. We do not design to MIL-STD-810 methods ourselves and we do not perform or certify the environmental qualification testing; that stays with the customer’s accredited test lab. What materials do you run — and what do you not run?
Aluminum, carbon and cold-rolled steel, and stainless steel (304/316) cover the field-equipment enclosures and frames we build, formed to 8 mm in mild steel and 10 mm in aluminum on our press brakes. We do not run titanium, Inconel, MP35N, or other exotic alloys, and we do not fabricate armor plate (RHA) or armored structures — say so early if a print calls for one of those and we will tell you it is outside our material stack.
What volumes and lead times can a program expect?
Production runs from a single prototype to 50,000 units per release. Basic piece parts — brackets, mounting frames, panel-level components — turn in 3 to 4 weeks; complex welded assemblies such as cabinets, chassis, and enclosure shells run 10 to 12 weeks, with rush scheduling and Kanban/JIT release available where a program needs staged delivery. A mid-program engineering change is tracked to the affected lot rather than the full run, and the first article on the new revision runs before volume resumes.
What documentation, traceability, and geography come with a defense order?
Every order runs under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system as a UL-listed shop, with mill certs, WPS/PQR weld documentation, in-process inspection records, AS9102-format first-article inspection, and full lot traceability through a MIE Trak Pro ERP — the same discipline behind our finishing and assembly work on production programs. We are not AS9100 certified, and material certifications and mill certs follow the part where the print calls for them. Fabrication runs out of our Las Vegas facility, in the same metro as Nellis Air Force Base and the Southwest’s defense-supplier base, with local delivery across Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and California and freight to the rest of the continental US.
Send a DXF or STEP with material, thickness, quantity, and finish, and note the target MIL-spec or environmental method up front.
